SUBJECT: RAW Hockey Programming
Please note the following important information regarding the above noted programming.
It has come to our attention that the Novice RAW program operating out of Lake Cowichan and Shawnigan Lake arenas has registered players from within the BC Hockey membership. As parents of a player in this age group we are calling your attention to BC Hockey and Hockey Canada guidelines that may affect your child.
The RAW program is operating outside the auspices of Hockey Canada. The attached BC Hockey Bulletin (Issue #2017-018) distributed in June of this year outlines our position on non-member programs and the consequences to individuals who participate in unregistered programming. Most importantly, this bulletin sets out that players and coaches who are registered in RAW after September 30 are not eligible to participate in programming at the Minor Hockey level for the balance of the 2017-2018 season.
Due to the timing of this notice, please note that the BC Hockey will adjust the effective date of eligibility, meaning that any individual who participates with the RAW program on or after October 5, 2017 will be ineligible to access BC Hockey programming for the balance of this season.
BC Hockey recognizes the ability for programs to operate outside of our membership but also want to take this opportunity to remind parents that the RAW program and the training and concepts it applies around full ice programming contradicts the guidelines set in place by BC Hockey and Hockey Canada relative to this age group.
