Tier 1 Combined tryout at Juan De Fuca Minor Hockey


This is an enhanced cooperative program allowing Peewee, Bantam and Midget players to assess from the following Minor Hockey Associations:

  • Juan de Fuca

  • Kerry Park

  • Sooke

  • Is the JDF Tier 1 tryout a separate tryout from JDF Representative (Rep) and Kerry Park Minor hockey (Rep) team tryouts?

    • Yes, the Tier 1 team tryout is completely separate from regular JDF and KPMHA Rep tryouts.


  • Is there an additional cost for my child to tryout for the Tier 1 team?

    • Yes, there is a $125 fee for each player to tryout.


  • Who is eligible to tryout for the Tier 1 team being hosted at JDF?

    • The Tier 1 team tryouts are open to players from JDF, Kerry Park and Sooke hockey associations.


  • If my child does not tryout for a Tier 1 team will it impact their opportunity to tryout for a KPMHA (Rep) team?

    • No, the Tier 1 Team tryouts are completely separate from Kerry Park Minor Hockey Rep tryouts.

    • Kerry Park Minor Hockey Rep tryouts begin the week of August 27th with "Rep Prep" starting the week of Aug 20th. Players attending this tryout session will be competing for a spot on one of our KPMHA only Rep teams.


  • What is the JDF Tier 1 tryout process?

    • Total 4 ice sessions, plus a goalie evaluation session

      • 1 skills sessions

      • 3 inter squad games

      • 1 on ice goalie evaluation session.

      • Exact times and dates have gone out to families that sent in their request form before July 24th.


  • When does the Tier 1 team tryout start?

    • Peewee and Bantam start the weekend of August 18th

    • Midget start date to be determined.

      • Many midget aged players are not available to tryout due to Junior A, Junior B, and Major Midget camps running at the same time.


  • Will first year Bantam players have to take a mandatory checking clinic

    • Yes, absolutely all first year bantam players must attend the on ice checking clinic to be eligible to play in the inter squad games.

      • Checking clinic will be on August 18th, and is a 2 hour on ice session - which is mandatory for all first year Bantam players and second year Bantam players that have not previously attended one.


  • What happens if a first year bantam player cannot attend the mandatory checking clinic?

    • Unfortunately the player will not be eligible to continue with the tryout process.


  • How do I register my child for the JDF Tier 1 tryout?

    • Players from Kerry Park, and Sooke must complete the request form ABOVE and submit to Juan de Fuca Minor Hockey Association.          

    • All players intending on trying out must be registered by July 7, 2018

    • All request forms for players intending on trying out must be received to the JDFMHA office by July 24, 2018 along with a $125 Application Fee.
